Goldbacks combine the familiar appearance and flexibility of traditional paper currency with thin layers of 24-karat gold. First introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, Goldbacks are designed as a voluntary form of local currency that participating businesses and individuals may choose to accept. Florida became the sixth state to introduce its own Goldback series and only the second to offer the fractional 1/4 Goldback denomination.
